Delivered the keynote speech at the Education Journey Forum “Teachers as Drivers of Learning in a Diverse World”

on February 18, 2023, from 09:15 – 09:45 AM.

With changes in the economy, global society, advancements in science, and technology affecting teachers, they must adapt to stay abreast of the situation. Teachers need to be prepared as a vital force driving the design of knowledge management, creating learning methodologies, and using essential tools to propel education to keep pace with the rapidly changing technological era. Educational personnel and institutions must evolve to keep up with the global situation, think broadly, seek knowledge, maintain quality standards, and be professional teachers ready for the new society.

The Essential Role of Teachers as Drivers of the Era

Creating a Learning Experience:

Teachers must be eager learners, open to new knowledge, ready to keep up with emerging technologies, and stimulate learning and knowledge acquisition. Teachers must allocate time to study and keep up with the advancing world. The three types of experiences comprise:

  • Creating experiences
  • Receiving experiences
  • Reflecting on experiences

The Role of Teachers in Enhancing Learning:

Teachers play a critical role in developing learners, a key factor in creating desirable changes within children and various other changes in the right direction.

The Unfinished Homework

The measure of a teacher is “the homework that students give to teachers.” Honorable Professor Dr. Jettana Nakwatchara recounted his experience as a university professor when a first-year female student posed a question as homework for a teacher to ponder. The student asked, “How should one view nature in order to gain wisdom?” Decades have passed since then, and now, Professor Dr. Jettana Nakwatchara, at 85 years old, still has no answer to this question.

“The homework that this student gave is what we call the skill of learning how to learn, a skill that anyone can study and carry with them throughout their life. Because the destination of learning is not just a single path but an endless interconnected web of knowledge and disciplines.”

The question from a curious student has become a treasure trove that this teacher has spent a lifetime searching for an answer to.
