Prototype for developing teacher in new style “teacher production process from start to end”

The Equitable Education Fund (EEF) is in its 3rd year of operating the Kru Rak Thin program, a crucial initiative aimed at developing a prototype to produce a new generation of teachers within a closed system. The primary objective is to supply teachers to schools in need, catering to the unique contexts of different areas. Dr. Wichaya Pewcome, a lecturer at the Faculty of Education specializing in Early Childhood Education at Chiang Mai University, views the Kru Rak Thin Program as revolutionary in the teacher production process. It begins from the initial recruitment of freshmen for university, where efforts are made to understand the backgrounds of prospective students. This knowledge informs the design of course syllabi to directly meet the needs of the community, which may differ from the core higher education curriculum.

Field visits to destination schools ignite the “Teacher Spirit”
within college students. These visits inspire students to study diligently and return to teach in areas where children eagerly await their arrival. This opportunity benefits not only the students themselves but also the parents and children in the respective areas.

“The Kru Rak Thin Program serves as a prototype for producing a new generation of teachers tailored to the unique contexts of each region. By implementing a specific process for teacher production in each area, students gain a deeper understanding of local culture and context. Understanding children goes beyond one self-awareness; it also requires an understanding of local culture. In the long term, this will be a promising prototype for Thailand.” Dr. Wichaya said.

The process begins with identifying individuals suitable for a teaching career. “Through a meticulous filtering process, suitable candidates with the right attitude are selected with confidence. The goal is to produce teachers who possess the right attitude, high spirits, and a love for their communities. These graduates are then encouraged to return to their hometowns to contribute to community development. This process will fix education inequality problem from giving education funds parallel with developing teachers to return to teach in their hometowns and developing the communities”

The Enrichment Program plays a crucial role in preparing individuals to become community developers. “Unlike in the past, where faculty relied solely on interviews to assess candidates, the Kru Rak Thin Program delves deeper into candidates’ backgrounds, including their family and living conditions. This approach allows for a better understanding of students’ needs, enabling instant problem-solving. On the other hand, for preparing teachers to become community developers, The Enrichment Program includes activities such as camping in Kru Dee Nai Duang Jai and learning about the Sufficiency Economy. Graduates of this program are equipped with the skills and inspiration needed to return to their communities and contribute to their development. Many students will feel proud and inspired to return to their communities after participating in such programs.” Asst. Prof. Saowaphak Sawangjan said, a lecturer at Suratthani Rajabhat University, Faculty of Education.
